SCALP MICROPIGMENTATION
What is SMP?
Scalp Micropigmentation (or "SMP") is a specifically designed and modified form of cosmetic tattooing that is applied to the scalp to give the appearance of shaved hair follicles – helping men and women who have experienced all types of hair loss.
At Give Good Face we specialise in the simulation of shaved hair, creating a completely natural look . Using a combination of careful colour matching, professional placement and micropigmentation techniques, Scalp Micropigmentation aims to mimic the natural hairline and can even be used to conceal scarring from prior hair transplants or trauma which may have lead to hair loss.
SMP offers incredible results to those intending to maintain the appearance of the 'buzzcut' or for those who feel the need to add some density to lighter areas of the Scalp in order to give the appearance of volume and fullness. That's why SMP works great for both men and women.
Will SMP make my hair grow back?
No. SMP is an effective solution to hair loss issues and although this may seem obvious, it is important to understand that SMP will not grow your hair back.
What are the different types of SMP?
*Shaved hair look: Mostly for men who have have a considerate degree of hair loss and already wear their hair shaved. In this case we recreate the appearance of tiny hair follicles, completely covering any bald patches and giving the appearance of closely shaved hair all over.
*Density look: For men and women who have some thinning areas on the scalp and would like to disguise the lighter areas. SMP will give the appearance of fuller hair.
*Scar camouflage: We can cover most types of scars (including those from FUT or FUE hair transplants).
This can be done with shaved or long hair.
Do I need to always shave my hair?
The general answer is YES, but not in all cases.
Most of the time, SMP is used by men who experienced medium to high hair loss and want to have the "shaved look buzz cut". In that case, SMP will work really well if all the hair is constantly maintained shaved at minimum length.
For clients (men or women) who wear their hair long but would like to add some density to thinning/lighter areas, then it is not necessary to shave.
Will my hairline look harsh, like an action figure?
No. Unless you really want to.
On your first session we will have a consultation and then design the new hair line with pencil first. We will decide together what suits you best. The new hair line can be very soft or more defined. It all depends on your personal style and features. Your treatment will be tailored specifically to you.
We do everything step by step so adjustments can be made and natural results achieved.
I have scars from a previous FUT Hair Transplant. Can that be covered?
Yes! SMP is a fantastic way to very effectively cover FUT scars and some other types of scars. Please have a look at our gallery for some results photos.
How long will it last?
SMP can be considered permanent because the pigment will last several years but will slowly fade over the time. This usually starts being noticeable at around 2 or 3 years when at that point the pigment starts to get lighter and a touch up session may be required to freshen up the work. This can vary from person to person depending on skin type, lifestyle and environment.
As general maintenance, touch up sessions can be done every 2 or 3 years, or even longer, depending on each person and they are much cheaper than the initial treatment.
At GiveGoodFace we only use high quality pigments from the best brands on the market, designed specifically for the Scalp to last as long as possible. That also means that although SMP will become lighter over the years, with the techniques we employ and the pigments we use, it won't change colour and it will always look natural.
Is SMP like a tattoo? Does it bleed?
SMP is a form of Cosmetic Tattooing but the techniques applied are very different. The correct term is Micropigmentation.
Traditional tattooing goes deeper into the skin and aims to apply creative designs and colours. . In micropigmentation, we work on a much more superficial layer of the skin and that's why we are able to create something that looks like real shaved hair . If we were to go as deep as traditional tattoos it wouldn't look natural at all. It would look like a tattoo.
Micropigmentation is a way to replicate the appearance of something that naturally belongs to the body, such as hair.
How many sessions does it take to complete a treatment?
The number of sessions required will depend entirely on the size of the area to be treated. The average number of sessions typically varies from 3 to 4. Typically, each session takes about 2 hours.
At GiveGoodFace we don't charge per session. We give personalised quotes based on the extension of the scalp area we need to work on and then we do as many sessions as needed to complete the job with no extras charges.
Each session will require a minimum healing time of 7 days in between.
Does it hurt?
There is a small level of discomfort involved but it's all very tolerable. Many clients feel practically nothing and even fall asleep during the session.
Are there any side effects and do I need to take time off work?
Recovery from SMP is minimal and there is no need to abstain from work during the course of your treatment. Most of the time the treated area goes unnoticed by others.
Clients will likely experience some very mild inflammation, redness and tenderness as a result of the tiny perforations made. By days 2 to 4, any visible symptoms should begin to settle down or even be completely gone. We will advise you how best to treat and cleanse the scalp during this time.
SMP can be a great alternative to anyone unhappy with hair loss. It is a safe, fast ,effective and affordable option. It typically sees a big surge in self confidence and often even strips back years from the face, leaving clients looking younger, fresher and undoubtedly feeling better about their physical appearance.
If you think SMP could work for you , have any further questions or would like to schedule a consultation, please send us a message so we can arrange that for you.
